2019 Harvest Stompede Agricultural Experiences
While you make your way along the trail for the Harvest Stompede event, take part in some fun and educational agricultural experiences offered along the way.
Stop by Amoritas Vineyards in Lake Leelanau to learn how grapes are tested for winemaking. A few varietals of grapes will be used to test the Brix of the grapes. This is a way to measure the potential alcohol content of a wine before it’s made by determining the sugar level in grapes.
At Aurora Cellars in Lake Leelanau, Head Farm Manager, Peter Rigan, will offer three tours at 12PM, 1PM and 2PM for 20 Harvest Stompede participants – first-come, first-served. Attendees must show tickets. After a short walk into the vineyard, Peter will introduce an innovative new technique to enhance the quality of Aurora’s reds. Participants will do a tasting in the vineyard of estate Blaufrankisch 2016 and Cabernet Franc 2016. Tour participants will have an opportunity to purchase those bottles at a discount of 20%. Saturday only. Must be 21 years of age or older.
Laurentide Winery experience: Learn about wine grapes by munching a few and asking questions like, “What’s inside a grape?” “What makes a grape ripe?” Or, “Why are wine grapes different than table grapes?” “How many grapes in a glass of wine?” “Do grapes really get sunburn?” Ask these and other life-altering puzzlers about the life cycle of a wine grape. Come prepared with questions and we’ll come prepared with answers.
Stop by Shady Lane Cellars in Suttons Bay to take a vineyard tour. Vineyard Tours take place every hour on the hour.
