Leelanau Peninsula has become well-known for its Riesling and other cool-climate white varietals and blends. What is often overlooked, however, are the high-quality red wines being grown in the region. To help get beneath the surface, the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail hosts a monthlong event each October that encourages wine lovers to explore and discover great red wines of Leelanau Peninsula. The Hunt for the Reds of October takes place WEEKDAYS (Monday through Friday) throughout the entire month. Your $10 ticket gets you a stemmed commemorative glass and a pour at all 23 participating wineries offering diverse red wines: big and bold Cabernet Francs and Merlots, aromatic and spicy Pinot Noirs and much more. Additionally, $5 of every ticket sold benefits the American Red Cross of Northern Michigan. Great wine for a great cause!

Wine and Cheese Tasting

Join us for an exclusive, private wine tasting accompanied by a selection a cheeses and other light bites. Our wine host will taste you through a showcase of Shady Lane Cellar’s handcrafted wines and discuss the geographic, climate and cellaring techniques used throughout their production. Offered regularly throughout the season on Friday and Saturday at 1:30pm

Wine Tasting Tour

Experience Black Star Farms Suttons Bay in a whole new way! Join us for a 45 minute guided tour through our breathtaking property on the Leelanau Peninsula while learning the history of our iconic estate and the journey from grape to glass . Followed by a premium wine tasting (souvenir glass included) featuring our internationally award winning wines, ciders and spirits.

Vineyard Tour and Wine Tasting

Join us for a leisurly walking tour of our vineyard (weather permitting) and enjoy a discussion about Shady Lane Cellar’s vineyard practices and how they translate to our handcrafted wines. Following the vineyard tour you will be hosted through a tasting of a selection of our wines and paritcipate in an in depth discussion about our wines and how the represent this region. Offered throughout the season on Fridays and Saturdays at 11:30 and 3:30.

Must be 21 years of age to purchase tickets and participate in the wine tasting.

Great Lakes Fish Boil

Join us for traditional Great Lakes Fish Boils Friday nights (weather permitting). The fish boil is to the Great Lakes what the clam bake is to New England. Dinner includes fresh Lake Michigan fish, local vegetable, potatoes, coleslaw, & dessert. Adults receive a complimentary glass of Black Star Farms house wine or featured craft cocktail.

The evening begins with a fun presentation of the history of Great Lakes fish boils. Followed by the spectacular boil-off signaling the fish is done. Check in is at 6:30 PM, dinner is served at 7:00 PM. We encourage you to bring the family and invite you to visit our friendly farm animals or explore our hiking trails.
