In recent news, winemaker, David Hill, noted that Michigan's 2009 growing season was undoubtedly one of the most challenging in recent history. That said, you can imagine our delight to learn that both our 2009 Blanc de Pinot Noir and 2009 Gewurztraminer were awarded gold medals at the Pacific Rim International Wine Competition in California while our 2009 Unwooded Chardonnay and 2009 Pinot Gris followed close behind with silvers. The Blanc de Pinot Noir, meaning white wine made from black grapes, is as the name implies, 100% Pinot Noir; it is the follow up to our widely acclaimed Pinot Noir Rosé from 2007 and 2008. Pale salmon in color, it's bursting with strawberry and cherry aromas and flavor, and balanced by a bright acidic finish. The Gewurztraminer is our first release of the varietal; like the Blanc de Pinot Noir, it is not blended and 100% of the grapes came from Old Mission Peninsula. It is a wine showing a melange of tropical fruit mingled with Asian pear and is a delight on its own or with a spicy dish. Both gold medal winners exemplify what can happen when talented people work together from vineyard to bottle.
Throughout the remainder of 2010, we'll be releasing several more new wines including a Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Late Harvest Chardonnay, and more. Stay tuned!
